Teyana Taylor was among the special guests at the finale of Jay-Z’s Yankee Stadium residency.
Taylor wasn’t going to let audio issues ruin her memories of her moment on stage with Jay, during which she filled the Mary J. Blige role, assisting on Reasonable Doubt’s “Can’t Knock the Hustle.” The Harlem native thanked Jay-Z for the opportunity and showed eternal gratitude to put the night in perspective with a heartfelt post to Instagram Monday (July 13).
“The sound & in-ears said ‘Not today.’ But guess what?? The gratitude was louder than any mic could ever be. I may not have been able to hear a damnnnnn thanggggg. But one thing I could do was SEE. I got to see this lil Harlem girl stand beside the GOAT… in Yankee Stadium… in front of over 40,000 people who showed so much love,” she reflected in the caption of her carousel post, which included photos and videos of her performance. “If you would’ve told this lil Harlem girl that one day she’d share a stage with JAY-Z in one of the most iconic stadiums in the world….she would’ve never believed you.”
“Father God has a funny way of reminding you just how far you’ve come,” she continued. “One minute you’re caught up in everything that’s going wrong… and the next, He gently reminds you that you’re standing in the middle of a prayer you once whispered as a little girl in Jesus name, Amen.”
Taylor concluded: “Jay… THANK YOU @jayz for allowing me to be a part of such an iconic night. Thank you for the opportunity, the trust and the honor. I’ll never take moments like this for granted & I’ll carry this one with me forever. Happy 30th anniversary to the albums that changed the culture forever.”
Sunday’s show got off to a rocky start with thousands stranded outside Yankee Stadium after the gates closed temporarily following a security breach, with unticketed fans rushing an entry point.
After delaying the show until just shy of 12:30 a.m. ET Monday (July 13), Hov brought out a star-studded cast of guests, as patience paid off for fans in attendance. In addition to Teyana Taylor, Hov invited Beyoncé, Rihanna, Clipse, The-Dream, Pharrell and Jeezy to join him on stage throughout the night.
It’s been a busy last month for Teyana Taylor, who was honored with the Icon of the Year Award at the 2026 BET Awards in June for her impact across music, fashion and film, which was presented by one of her heroes and primary influences in Janet Jackson. She also took home an additional three BET Awards throughout the night.
